Playtech’s Blackjack Surrender in Review

This game is quite similar to the classic Blackjack games, and it’s quite simple to learn, so it’s a good option for new players looking to take the next step in their Blackjack development.

The game is played exclusively at online casinos that are powered by Playtech, a well-respected software studio. Finding a high-quality site to play Blackjack Surrender at should be easy, but before you do, take a look at the guidelines and pointers here.

The Basics of Blackjack Surrender

This online blackjack game has the same essential principles and the goal is to get a hand total of 21, or as close to this as possible without going to 22 or higher. The number cards all carry their face value, while the aces and royal cards are worth 11 or 1 and 10 respectively. In this particular variation, 4 standard decks are used in play.

You’ll begin as usual, by placing your bets, and once every player has done this they’ll be dealt 2 cards each. The dealer will also get 2 cards, one of which will be face-up. Once you’ve seen your cards and the dealer’s visible card, it’s time for the action to begin.

In turn, each player will get to Hit and be dealt more cards to improve their hand total, and to Stand when they are satisfied. The dealer must Hit until reaching a total of 17, and must Stand when they do. In this Surrender version of the game the dealer will also peek, meaning they will check and reveal a Blackjack if their visible card is an ace or a 10 card.

You’ll be allowed to split your hand once, and split aces can only be dealt 1 extra card. You’re also allowed to Double Down after you’ve split your hand, meaning you double your original bet and then receive only 1 more card per hand.

A Blackjack hand, consisting of an ace and a 10-value card, naturally wins the game and pays out 3:2. For added benefit and excitement, Blackjack Surrender also uses the 7-Card Charlie Rule. This says that if you Hit and receive 7 cards without busting and there are no natural Blackjacks, you’ll win the round automatically and be paid out even money.

The Surrender Option

The unique feature about Blackjack Surrender is that you can surrender early, as soon as all hands have been dealt. This removes .24% and .39% house advantage against a 10 card and an ace respectively, so if you know how to use the surrender option properly it can be very helpful.

As you play more and more you’ll get to know when to surrender and when not in order to increase your edge against the house. Basic accepted wisdom is that you should surrender if you have a hand of 16 and the dealer’s face-up card is a 9, 10 or ace; if you have 15 and the dealer shows an ace or 10; and if you have 17 and the dealer’s visible card is an ace.

There are plenty of other strategies and tips to help you develop your Blackjack Surrender game, and the more you practice the more skilled you’ll be. Use the no-deposit free play option that most casinos offer to do just that. When you know something works and you feel confident with it, you can play for real money.
